Maximizing the Extricom WLAN

Extricom offers a range of accessories to help you maximize the benefits of your WLAN and simplify deployments.

EXRE Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Range Extenders

The Extricom EXRE-10 PoE Range Extender (Fast Ethernet) and EXRE-1000 PoE Range Extender (Gigabit Ethernet) are complementary components to the Extricom WLAN system. The EXRE series range extenders double the standard 100-meter range of PoE, allowing Extricom Access Points to be placed up to 200 meters from the Extricom WLAN switch.

The EXRE-10/EXRE-1000 are connected in-line using standard Cat5e/6 cable, do not require an external power feed, and are bi-directional, with both ports able to serve as input or output. The design of the PoE Range Extenders reflect the emphasis on deployment simplicity and operational flexibility that is the hallmark of an Extricom solution.

The EXRE-10 and EXRE-1000 offer an additional level of adaptability in the fact that they are standalone products. They can be used in any standard Ethernet deployment to extend PoE range, and do not require the purchase of an Extricom WLAN.

EXMC Media Converter

The EXMC-1000 Media Converter allows users to extend the size of their WLAN with the use of fiber cabling. The EXMC- 1000 functions as a GbE range extender, providing fiber connectivity to Extricom access points and Extricom WLAN switches at distances of up to 700 meters. The EXMC-1000 can be simply installed in any implementation and is connected to the WLAN switch or AP with Cat-5e/6 cable through a standard RJ45 port.

Extricom Deployment Tool

A hallmark of the Extricom WLAN system is its simplicity of deployment. The Extricom Deployment Tool is an easy-to-use software application designed to help you quickly decide the optimal position for Extricom's APs, to maximize both coverage and capacity with minimal effort.

Key features of the Extricom Deployment Tool include:

  • Simple, intuitive GUI to graphically represent coverage areas
  • No need for RF cell planning
  • Import of generic map layout diagrams
  • Flexible placement of network components
  • Clear feedback of configuration status per switch and AP
  • Concise graphical signal coverage representation through color coding
  • Provision for air rates, Rx power and Same Band configuration
