Essa Academy, a 900-student Academy in Bolton, England, was determined to transform and enhance learning opportunities available to students. They saw technology as key to achieving this goal, and their technology of choice was wireless LAN, which makes online resources available anywhere on campus.

To make this vision a reality Essa Academy chose an Extricom WLAN. As seen in Essa Academy's Manifesto For Change video, the results have been dramatic.

Project Summary

ESSA Academy needed a solution that would give them coverage wherever students might be: inside the dining hall or out on playing fields,. The system would need to support a variety of innovative educational applications and technologies, including Toshiba Laptops, Epson Wireless Projectors, Apple IPod Touches and the Turning Point feedback and assessment tool. They even envisaged using wireless cameras for biology students to watch birds nesting from the classroom.

This ambitious plan required an innovative WLAN to make it work, one that would ensure seamless mobility and robust connectivity. Essa chose Extricom to leverage the strengths of the uniquely innovative Channel Blanket, which provided a unique balance of coverage, capacity, and mobility that none of the other wireless vendors could match.

The Extricom deployment at Essa Academy was carried out by Solutions House UK , an integrator with in-depth expertise in crafting wireless solutions. Working outside of school hours, the Solutions House team performed a free site survey, then executed a flawless rollout to the seven-building campus over six weeks. Essa Academy can now leverage the largest, 802.11n Channel-Blanket wireless LAN of any school in the UK.

Abdul Chohan, Essa Academy's Assistant Director,  summarized what was achieved thusly: "Extricom and Solutions House Ltd have given us the foundations to position Essa Academy as an outstanding learning establishment offering students the best possible environment to maximise their educational and personal development."
